Fez

Fes is the third biggest city in Morocco, with a population of 1,1 millions of habitants (2014).

The city was funded beside the river Jawhar by Idris I in 789 d.c. of the Idrissi dynasty.

It is situated at the base of the Medium Atlas mountains in the west north Africa. It’s

has a Mediterranean clime with an influence of continental clime, it can be cold and rain in winter but in summer it is hot in the summer months between June and September.

Fes it was the first modern city in Morocco until 1925 now it is the capital of administration area Fes-Meknes. The city or medina has two distinct areas: The biggest  muslim quarter is “Fes el Bali” and the second the Judie quartier is “The Mellah”.

It is clasificated as a protected area by the UNESCO. It is the biggest city without traffic in the world. We can find in the city the university of the Quaraouiyine, founded in 859. It is the oldest “Madrassa” coranic and cientific school in the world and still functions.

The city is called the “Western Mecca” and the “Attens from Africa”.
